Mozart Piano Quartet 1

Mozart composed two piano quartets during the 1780s. The first, in G minor, was published in 1785 while Mozart was living in ViennaDespite the quality of the work, the quartet was a sales flop because of its difficulty and complexity. Today, the quartet is one of the most loved and performed in the genre.

THE JOSEPHINUM IN VIENNA 1785

The intensity of the G minor 1st movement gives way to a lovely modified sonata form 2nd movement. The 3rd movement is a hybrid of sonata form and rondo form in the happy key of G Major.
