Mozart Symphony 39

Mozart's Symphony 39 was the first of a trilogy, all of which were composed during the summer of 1788. Together, these last three symphonies are Mozart's final works in the genre. Mozart most likely never heard the piece performed during his lifetime, yet it remains today one of his most popular works.

The Symphony 39 begins with a slow introduction in the style of a French Overture before moving into a dance-like triple meter allegro. All four movements contain some unusual harmonic twists that would have been considered bold for the times. The overall mood of the symphony is heroic and joyful, and in the final movement, even playfully comic.
