Haydn Symphony 104

Haydn composed twelve symphonies during his two visits to London between 1791 and 1795. These twelve symphonies are collectively known as the "London" Symphonies and are numbered from 93-104.

LONDON IN THE 1790s

Haydn's Symphony 104 was composed in 1795 and is the final symphony he ever composed, despite living for another fourteen years. Slightly confusingly, Symphony 104 has the same nickname as the entire set. In other words, the "London Symphonies" refer to the complete set of twelve symphonies, whilst the term "London Symphony" only refers to Symphony 104.

The premiere of the "London" Symphony was an enormous success and it remains Haydn's most performed symphonic work.
