Haydn Symphony 103

Haydn's two trips to London in 1791 and 1795 saw the composition and premiere of Symphonies 93-104 (also known as the "London" Symphonies). Collectively, all twelve works enjoyed immediate success in England and are considered the highest achievement in 18th Century symphonic writing.

Haydn's Symphony 103 is nicknamed the "Drumroll" for the timpani roll that begins the symphony.

The premiere of the "Drumroll" Symphony was, like all of the London premieres, a big success with both audiences and critics. It remains one of Haydn's most frequently performed works.
