Michael Haydn was very well known and respected as a composer and concertmaster during his lifetime. He worked most of his life in Salzburg and was friends with Mozart whom he respected very much.
Whichever Haydn it was who composed this lovely horn concerto, it remains part of the standard hornist's repertoire and is instantly likable.
