Mozart Horn Concerto 3

Mozart composed four concerti for horn, more than he wrote for any other wind instrument.

JOSEPH LEUTGEB

The creation of these works is due to hornist Joseph Leutgeb. Leutgeb was the most prestigious hornist of the time and a lifelong friend of Mozart.

Today, all four horn concerti by Mozart are core repertoire for any hornist. Horn Concerto 3 is particularly popular because of it's beautiful 2nd movement melody (which also makes an appearance in the 3rd movement), and the use of clarinets instead of oboes in the orchestra which provide a warmer sound.
