Mozart Flute Concerto

The 21 year-old Mozart left Salzburg in 1777 to find employment at one of the royal courts of Europe. Stopping in Mannheim on his way tParisMozart received a commission for several compositions from wealthy amateur flutist, Ferdinand Dejean, including three concerti for flute.

Of the three commissioned concerti, only the Flute Concerto in G Major was completed. The second concerto was an arrangement of Mozart's earlier Oboe Concerto. The third concerto was never written.

The G Major Flute Concerto remains one of the staples of the solo flute repertoire and represents the best of Mozart's pre-Viennese compositions.
