Although Beethoven's Symphony 1 was inspired by the music of Haydn and Mozart, there are elements to the work that make it Beethoven's own, and will be a point of departure for Beethoven's future works.

The premiere of Beethoven's Symphony 1 was a major success. To Beethoven's frustration, his Symphony 1 remained the most popular of all his symphonies during his lifetime.
