Haydn Symphony 88

Haydn spent the bulk of his career as the Kapellmeister of Prince Nikolaus Esterhazy at the Esterhazy Palace in Hungary. Aside from Haydn's Paris Symphonies (82-87) and his London Symphonies (93-104), Haydn composed almost all of his other symphonies for the orchestra at Esterhazy Palace.

Symphony 88 is possibly Haydn's most loved symphony that doesn't have it's own nickname or isn't part of a set such as the Paris or London Symphonies (even though the five symphonies 88-92 have often been jokingly referred to as Haydn's "Channel" Symphonies, referring to the body of water between France and England).

Although the entirety of Symphony 88 is marvelous, perhaps the highlight of the work is the catchy 4th movement Rondo which is one of Haydn's happiest creations.
