Haydn Trumpet Concerto

Haydn composed his Trumpet Concerto in 1796 for Anton Weidinger, the court trumpeter in Vienna. Weidinger had constructed his own "keyed" trumpet which could play notes that were impossible on the "natural" trumpets of the time.

After the invention of valves in the 19th century, Haydn's Trumpet Concerto became one of the most popular in the repertoire. It remains Haydn's most performed concerto.
