Cosi Fan Tutte

Cosi Fan Tutte (Thus Do They All) was first premiered at Vienna's Burgtheater in 1790. "Cosi" was the third and final opera collaboration between Mozart and librettist Lorenzo da Ponte.

LORENZO DA PONTE

Unlike Mozart's other opera masterworks, Cosi Fan Tutte has a very unusual performance history. In Vienna, it was only performed five times before the death of Emperor Joseph II caused the theaters to close down for a period of mourning.

After Mozart's death a year later, Cosi Fan Tutte fell out of favor because of it's risqué subject matter and was rarely performed. After the Second World War, the opera was revived and has been one of the most performed operas in the repertoire ever since.
