Mozart Quintet K 452

Mozart's Quintet for Piano and Winds was premiered in 1784 at the Imperial and Royal National Court Theatre in Vienna with Emperor Joseph II in attendance.

The quintet was an instant success, prompting Mozart to write his father after the premiere:

"I myself consider the quintet to be the best thing I have written in my life."

The Quintet for Piano and Winds is unlike any chamber work composed to its time. Mozart successfully combined the five completely different timbres of the oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, and piano in such a way as to make full use of their individual tone color.
