Beethoven Piano Concerto 5

Beethoven's Piano Concerto 5 was composed in 1809 and premiered in 1811. Dedicated to Beethoven's patron Archduke Rudolf, the concerto was premiered in Leipzig with Friedrich Schneider as soloist due to Beethoven's declining hearing.

BEETHOVEN'S SKETCH FOR THE FIRST MOVEMENT

The Piano Concerto 5 has a heroic sense of grandeur throughout and features the piano soloist immediately. Other innovations include the enormous length of the first movement, the virtuosity required by the soloist, the use of surprising modulations, and the linking of the final two movements without a pause.
