Beethoven's 10th and 11th string quartets were composed in 1809 and 1810 respectively during Beethoven's "Heroic" Period.
String Quartet 10 (Op 74) is nicknamed the "Harp" Quartet because of the use of harp-like pizzicato arpeggios present in several sections of the first movement.

String Quartet 11 (Op 95)is nicknamed the "Serioso" quartet due to its compactness, intensity, and its home key of F minor. The entire work contains many experimental characteristics that would indicate the direction Beethoven would explore in his late quartets.
