Beethoven Symphony 7

Beethoven's Symphony 7 is one of the most performed works in the entire repertoire and has been a favorite since its premiere in 1813. Beethoven premiered the work at a charity concert for soldiers wounded during the Napoleonic wars. The event was held at the Alte Universitat and was most likely Beethoven's most successful concert during his lifetime.

Symphony 7 was an immediate success and led to many subsequent performances. The second movement proved to be so popular that it was often encored, including at the premiere.

Each movement of Symphony 7 is based on a different rhythmic motive that is developed throughout the movement. As a result, the work is sometimes referred to as Beethoven's "Dance" Symphony.

The interval of a semitone is a feature that unifies the work. Whether in sudden harmonic shifts or beautiful melodic lines, the semitone interval is utilized in many creative and unique ways.
