Mozart Clarinet Quintet

Mozart's Clarinet Quintet, composed in 1789, is one of three landmark works composed for clarinetist Anton Stadler, the other two being the Clarinet Trio of 1786 and the Clarinet Concerto of 1791, Mozart's final completed orchestral work.

The Clarinet Quintet is scored for a string quartet and basset clarinet capable of playing a third lower than a standard clarinet.

Although the Clarinet Quintet features a clarinet soloist throughout the work, it is integrated musically to the rest of the ensemble so that the strings have roles of equal importance in the music.

Of particular note is the gorgeous melody that opens the 2nd movement and the charming variations in the 4th movement.
