Double Exposition Form

DOUBLE EXPOSITION FORM is essentially Sonata Form altered slightly to fit the needs of a concerto.

Instead of having one Exposition that is repeated, a Double Exposition Form movement will have two differently composed Expositions:

Orchestral Exposition - Themes 1 and 2 are played by the orchestra and there is no change of key (modulation) between the themes.

Solo Exposition - Themes 1 and 2 are played by the soloist and the themes are in different keys.

Sometimes, (especially with Mozart) the soloist will introduce a third theme called the Solo Theme.  The Solo Theme will appear in the Solo Exposition either before or after Theme 2.

The Development and Recapitulation generally follow the same guidelines as in regular Sonata Form.
