Salomon Memorial

JOHANN PETER SALOMON

Johann Peter Salomon was a German musician and conductor who single-handedly managed to bring Haydn to London for two residencies (1791 and 1794).

During this time, Haydn composed his 12 London Symphonies for the English audiences in concerts organized and conducted by Salomon.

Salomon is a national hero to the British for his work in getting Haydn to come to London and to compose his 12 greatest symphonies for the British public.  His remains are buried in the cloisters of Westminster Abbey, in London.
