Neoclassical Design

The Neoclassical style of design began partially as a reaction to the Rococo style of frivolous ornamentation, and partly as the result of a renewed interest in ancient Greek and Roman civilization.

The basic elements of Neoclassical design include symmetry, geometric lines, columns, domes, and pediments.  In England, the Neoclassical style is called Georgian because during this time period the King of England was George III.

In France, Neoclassical design can be found all over Paris, especially in architecture from the time of the French Revolution and subsequent age of Napoleon.
